Kounteya is a reputed and renowned name in the world of photography and reportage. He was the Europe and the UK editor of Times of India, which was based out of London. Earlier to this, he was a Senior Assistant Editor in the national as well as political news bureau of TOI. Rajiv Soni’s interests lie in photography and archival research and have held individual photography exhibitions in the past. His work on colonial Calcutta has been the subject of two exhibitions and has featured in publications including a coffee table book on Kolkata titled Kolkata 'S miles'.

He has authored “100 CC- A Century of Communication” published by Rupa Books and released by Mr. Ratan N Tata. His forthcoming books are on the History of Brands of Tata Steel and Kaleidoscope -a Coffee Table Book on the city of Patna.
